Example:
According to my latest update, you have submitted three of the five reports. Two of the three reports are incomplete. You have two months left to submit the five completed reports. Would you agree with this overview?
- If perceptions of the feedback match, ask for a timeline or plan for completing the reports, conduct a Motivational Outlook Conversation, or end the meeting.
- If perceptions of the feedback do not match, review facts, expectation, and/or goals to reach agreement and/or conduct a Motivations Outlook Conversation.
Steps:
- Describe, without judgment, the outcome(s) you observed the person achieve; just the facts about “what”.
- Check to see if the receiver’s perception matches yours.
- Agree on behavior change and/or new requirements, if appropriate.
