Cautions… DO NOT
- Attack or threaten the person
- Express disapproval in public
- Store up negative feedback
I didn’t get your report yesterday at 3:00p.m. when you promised you’d have it to me. What happened? (Listen to the other person’s story; then, decide whether to continue.) Well, I didn’t get the report. I checked around my desk, thinking it must be there. I must have spent 15 minutes looking and then I went home. I waited for a call from you about the report. No call. I went to the meeting with my boss this morning and told him we might as well not meet since I didn’t have your report. I’m feeling frustrated, disappointed, and let down. (Pause.) It is not like you. You always get your reports to me on time. And without your thiking – we can’t solve the problem. You know better than anyone else what we need to do in this situation. So, I need the report today by 10:00a.m.
