1.1 Pure Feedback—How

Pure Feedback on How

Example:

After a review of the three reports you submitted, it seems that two of the three are missing demographic data such as gender and age. The third report contains the required information. All three reports are missing a signature in the summary section, but otherwise those summary sections are thorough and complete. Is this your perception as well?

  • If perceptions of the feedback match, move to direction, training, and/or a Motivational Outlook Conversation.
  • If perceptions of the feedback do not match, review facts, expectations, and/or goals to reach agreement before continuing.

Steps

  1. Describe, without judgment, the actions or activities you observed the person using to get results; just the facts about “how.”
  2. Check to see if the receiver’s perception matches your description.
  3. Give a clear description of alternative actions or activities, if appropriate.
  4. Agree on change and/or new requirements and check for understanding.

Summary

Describe actions or activities.

Check perceptions.

Describe alternatives.

Reach agreement.
