Effective and Compelling Goals

Writing an effective and compelling goal is at the core of a multi-level process that takes a Goal from the “Big Picture” to specific action steps. There are three levels to the structure of an effective goal:

Key Responsibility Area Statements
Goal Statements
Task Statements

The Goal Setting Context learning module will encourage you to break down goals into these three levels, in order to make your goal setting process more effective and meaningful.

* Some organizations have their own language as it relates to the Goal Structure terms. Instead of Key Responsibility Areas (KRAs), some organizations might use terms such as Functional Role Outcomes, Key Performance Indicators, or Key Objectives — adapt the terms according to your organization’s language and norms.
